The department forms the back bone of the dental college as it takes care of the oral and dental health awareness and education cum motivation by extending its arms across the public as it creates a social awareness and also harnesses the need for maintenance of oral health for overall health of the individual as well as entire community. The routine procedures taken up by the department are organization of the dental awareness camps, educational posters display for dental /oral hygiene maintenance etc. Special care is taken regarding the tobacco users as these patients are guided and motivated to quit the habits as they are educated regarding the harmful as well as life threatening aspects of the menace of usage of tobacco. To facilitate this aim we have a full fledged tobacco intervention initiative centre for anti-tobacco counseling. Preventive treatments are carried out in the department on regular basis.

The department also organizes important days in the calendar years for eg. World No Tobacco day, Oral hygiene day, World Dentist day, Doctors day, and AIDS day etc, to name few, apart from these the department also thrives constantly by conducting, Dental camps regularly for benefit of the society. 171 Dental camps were conducted in last 5 years. The patients from camps are referred to our dental hospital and some patients who reported were treated free of cost and some at subsidized treatment cost, for their basic dental treatment. The staff and students of all units of Bharati Vidyapeeth are given treatment with fee concessions. The Department also runs 2 satellite centres to cater for the dental health of the rural population.

Both the centers at Lavale and Panshet are fully equipped with all the latest dental equipments thus providing quality dental care totally free of cost. Dedicated staff and interns are posted and Post graduate students from Department of Oral Surgery, Endodontics & Pedodontics are posted for specialty treatment.

The department has also adopted villages like Ambegaon khurd, Ambegaon budruk and Bhugaon with the consent of their Grampanchayats for free dental treatment.

While rendering the treatment to various patients the diagnosis and treatment planning is done in accordance with the opinions of different department specialists whose opinions become an important consideration in the success of the treatment.
